About

I teach British history (early modern and 20th-century), Atlantic history, and American and British politics at the Institut des Langues et des Etudes Internationales (ILEI) of the University of Versailles St Quentin (near Paris).

My main research interest is the geopolitics of the early modern Atlantic, with special reference to New England and its neighbo(u)rs.
My other research interest are the role of fear in history as well as the connection between history, memory and identity.

I have recently published a volume of essays on commemorations and the political uses of the past, at the Presses Universitaires de Rennes, entitled _Du bon usage des commémorations: histoire, mémoire et identités, XVIe-XXIe siècles_

Ongoing projects include an edited volume on fear in early modern America and a religious history of the US (yes, the whole thing) to be published in Sept. 2012.

I have founded of the Summer Academy of Atlantic History (SAAH) along with Pr. Susanne Lachenicht (Uni. Bayreuth). The first Academy will be held in Bayreuth 30 Aug.-3 Sept. 2010.
The second edition was held in Galway, 26-28 May 2011.
